When a person does not have sex or their sex life is not satisfactory, masturbation may be the only way to ease tension, get pleasure and boost one’s self-esteem. It is especially true for women. According to the public opinion poll conducted in the USA, masturbating women are completely satisfied with their body.

In our society, there is generally believed that BDSM is not normal and only mentally ill people can embrace this practice. However, in 2013 a study was conducted comparing the behavior of those who practice BDSM and who do not. The results were surprising – subjects in the first group (BDSM) were more satisfied with their lives, less vulnerable to stress and more open to everything new.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD is experienced differently from person to person. Someone feels the urgent need to wash their hands all the time, someone is obsessed with sexual fantasies or masturbation. Today, there is a treatment for OCD to relieve the symptoms.
Accidental sex and the human psyche
According to a sex therapist Zhan Vrangalov, accidental sex can impact the mental health of a person but it depends on the circumstances and what was the impression from an accidental intercourse.
If sex is used as a means to revenge or to please someone, it can decrease self-esteem and cause anxiety and depression.
If it was sex for the purpose of engaging a new experience, then it will be beneficial and may boost one’s self-esteem without a risk of developing depression or anxiety.
Whatever the psychological issues, sex can’t solve them. However, sometimes sex may help to understand oneself and even improve one’s state of mind.
